Empty Bowls

On Sunday, October 29, 2023, Yokefellow will host a very special fundraiser known as “Empty Bowls.” You can support this event in several ways.

The purpose of the event is to raise as much money as possible to feed the community’s hungry people, as well as increase awareness of hunger and related issues. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Yokefellow.

You could buy tickets, which are $25 per person, and encourage others to do so by sharing the event on social media.

If you are a potter or own a gift shop, you could contribute to the bowls or other items available as a gift to each person who attends.

Each year, hundreds of people attend the fundraiser and volunteers are needed. If you would like to help coordinate Empty Bowls, please let us know.

LAST YEAR - 2022

In October 2022, Yokefellow held its 6th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser and were able to celebrate in the lovely cafeteria of William Lenoir Middle School.

According to the 2019 Feeding America Map Meal Gap study, the national food insecurity rate was 10.9%, North Carolina’s was 19.4% and Caldwell County’s was 15.6%, an increase from 13.1% in 2017. Child hunger is even more alarming. The same study showed a national child food insecurity rate of 14.6%, NC’s as 18.3% and Caldwell County’s as 27.5% – more than one in every four children.

“Empty Bowls: Feeding Our Neighbors” encourages artists and groups to create and donate bowls and for local chefs to prepare their delicious signature soups and breads, then serve a simple meal. In exchange for the meal and the handcrafted bowl, guests gave a suggested donation of $25 per person at the October 2022 event.
